You’ve picked the venue and settled on a date. Now comes the slightly trickier part: what is everyone actually going to do?

Bridal shower games are an option, but not the only one. If the bride would rather skip the toilet paper dresses and trivia, plenty of activities give guests something to do without turning the afternoon into a competition (friendly or otherwise!).

Some run quietly in the background while guests mingle. Others work better as a planned part of the shower. A few even leave the bride or guests with something worth taking home.

Still want to mix in a couple of games? Go for it. A round of Bridal Shower Bingo or the Purse Game can easily sit alongside one of these activities.

Memory Makers

These activities are all about creating something the couple can keep after the shower. Most can be set up before guests arrive and completed whenever people have a few spare minutes, so there’s no need to stop the party and get everyone involved at once.

1. Date Night Jar

Give each guest a card and ask them to suggest a date night for the newlyweds. The ideas can be anything from their favorite local restaurant to a weekend away or something completely ridiculous the couple would never think of themselves.

Put out our ‘Made by Modern MOH’ Date Jar sign with matching cards, pens, and a box for completed suggestions. Print a few extra cards too. Someone always thinks of their second idea five minutes after handing in their first.

2. Advice for the Mr & Mrs

For this one, guests leave their best piece of marriage or relationship advice for the couple.

Set out our Advice & Wishes cards next to a keepsake box with a few pens. Encourage specific advice rather than twenty versions of “never go to bed angry.” The bride can read the cards during the shower or save them to go through privately with her partner later.

MODERN MOH TIP: Ask anyone important who can’t attend to send their advice beforehand so you can slip their card into the collection.

3. Customized Cookbook/Recipe Box

Ask guests to contribute a favorite recipe and turn them into a cookbook or recipe collection for the couple.

If guests will be writing their recipes at the shower, have a blank recipe book ready and mention it on the invitation, so nobody’s trying to remember Grandma’s lasagna ingredients while holding a mimosa.

Another option is to send out our Recipe Request cards with the shower invitations. Guests can fill them out at home, then bring them to the shower and drop them into a recipe box.

4. Anniversary Wishes

This one gives the couple a collection of messages to open on future anniversaries.

Number our Anniversary Wishes cards to match your guest count. With a big guest list, add early milestones like one, three, six, and nine months so nobody gets stuck writing to the couple’s 47th anniversary.

Shuffle the cards before handing them out, then have each guest write a message for the anniversary they received. Everything goes into a keepsake box for the couple to work their way through over the years.

5. Favorite Memory

Ask guests to write down a favorite memory they share with the bride, then collect the cards in a pretty bowl or box.

The memories can be funny, sentimental, or completely ordinary. Those small stories are often the ones the bride has forgotten about.

She can read them aloud during the shower or take the collection home. If you’d rather turn the memories into a guessing game, try our Who Am I? bridal shower game instead.

6. Bucket List

This works much like the Date Night Jar, except guests get to think bigger.

Hand out our Bucket List cards and have everyone suggest an experience the couple should have together. It could be visiting Paris, learning to scuba dive, planting a garden, or finally taking that road trip they keep talking about.

Collect the cards in a keepsake box, and the couple has a ready-made list of future adventures.

MODERN MOH TIP: Encourage the couple to send the guest a photo if they eventually complete their suggestion. It might happen six months later or ten years later, which is kind of the point.

Fun Festivities

If you want something livelier, these activities get guests up and interacting instead of sitting at a table filling in cards. Pick just one as the main activity. Trying to squeeze all five into one shower is a bit much!

1. Selfie Station

A selfie station gives guests a spot to snap photos without an official photographer trailing everyone around.

Start with one of our themed Selfie Station signs, then add a photo booth frame, a few props, and a backdrop that works with the shower theme. Guests can take their own photos throughout the party and add them to a shared album afterward.

MODERN MOH TIP: Add a guestbook and instant camera or photo printer if you want something physical for the bride to keep. Guests can stick in their photos and write a message beside them. The camera can come back out for the bachelorette party, wedding, and honeymoon too.

2. Karaoke

Karaoke needs a group that’s happy to laugh at itself.

You’ll need a karaoke machine or instrumental playlist, a microphone, and somewhere guests can see the lyrics. Start with songs most people know rather than waiting for someone to bravely volunteer for a solo five minutes after arriving.

Duets and group songs take some of the pressure off. And if Aunt Linda unexpectedly produces a flawless Whitney Houston impression, consider that a bonus.

3. Newlywed Game

Before the shower, ask the bride’s partner a series of questions about her and their relationship. Record the answers or write them down.

At the shower, ask the bride how she thinks her partner responded, then reveal the real answer. Guests can guess too, which makes this feel more like a group activity than a traditional sit-down game.

Mix easy ones like their first date or her favorite food with a few that could invite debate, such as her most annoying habit or who said “I love you” first. Those are the ones that get the room talking.

MODERN MOH TIP: Use a Q&A video maker like Celebrate.buzz to record the partner answering the questions beforehand and play the clips on a TV or screen. Seeing the actual reaction is much funnier than somebody reading the answers from their phone.

4. Tasting Station

Wine, chocolate, cheese, and coffee all work for a tasting station. Pick one and do it well.

Line up several varieties with small tasting portions and cards explaining what guests are trying. Simple scorecards are useful if you want everyone to record their favorites.

Want to make it more interactive? Turn it into a blind tasting and see who can identify each variety. If wine is the star, our wine-themed bridal shower ideas cover how to build the whole party around it.

MODERN MOH TIP: Small packages of the items being tasted can double as bridal shower favors. Guests can simply take home their favorite.

5. Dance Party

Give the dancing its own slot in the shower rather than vaguely hoping everyone will hit the dance floor.

Bring in an instructor, learn a simple line dance or salsa routine, follow a TikTok dance, or nominate the friend who somehow always becomes the unofficial choreographer.

Keep the routine achievable and film the final attempt. A room full of people getting it slightly wrong makes a much better video for the bride to keep.

DIY Bridal Shower Activities

A DIY station is a good fit for a shower where guests will be arriving, chatting, and moving around rather than following a strict schedule. Choose something people can pick up fairly quickly, and have all the supplies ready before the first guest arrives.

1. Bouquet Bar

A bouquet bar lets guests make a small arrangement or flower crown to take home. It fits naturally into a garden party, boho bridal shower, or any shower where flowers are already part of the decor.

Buckets of flowers and greenery, floral snips, ribbon or bouquet wrap, and a few finished examples are enough to get everyone started. Keep the arrangements fairly small, so there are plenty of blooms to go around.

No doubt someone will insist they’re terrible at arranging flowers and then make the best bouquet on the table!

Set up your bouquet bar with these essentials:

2. Jewelry Making

Beads, charms, and a bit of stretch cord are all guests need to make a bracelet or necklace to take home.

Stick to one type of jewelry so the setup stays manageable. A few finished examples help guests get started, especially anyone who freezes when faced with several hundred tiny beads.

You could also ask everyone to make one small piece for the bride, giving her a collection from the people at her shower.

Jewelry Bar Ideas:

3. Pottery Painting

Guests can decorate mugs, plates, trinket dishes, or other small ceramic pieces for this activity.

A local pottery studio may be able to supply the pieces and paints and then kiln-fire everything afterward. Just remember that someone will need to collect and redistribute the finished pieces once they’re ready.

If you’d rather skip the kiln, choose ceramics and paints that can be finished at home. The results may be simpler, but guests can take their creations with them at the end of the shower.

4. Perfume Bar

Guests mix their own signature scent here and leave with a small bottle of it.

Four or five fragrance notes are plenty. Floral, citrus, woody, and sweet give guests enough to play with without turning the table into a chemistry lab.

Include scent strips for testing, small perfume bottles, labels, and coffee beans to help reset everyone’s sense of smell between combinations.

Create a DIY Perfume Bar with these basics:

5. Sweet Treat Decorating

A cookie or cupcake decorating station is easy to adapt to almost any shower theme.

Stock the table with plain cookies or cupcakes, a few frostings, piping bags, sprinkles, and simple decorations. Match the colors and shapes to the party, such as gingerbread for a winter bridal shower or lemon cupcakes for a lemon-themed shower.

Guests can eat their creations at the shower or take them home, so you’ve covered dessert, favor, and an activity in one go!

Masterclass Activities

A workshop can become the main event of the shower, particularly if the bride would rather do something than spend the afternoon opening gifts and playing games.

Bring in someone who actually knows what they’re doing for activities that need instruction. The host already has enough jobs without suddenly needing to qualify as a yoga instructor or cocktail expert.

1. Spa or Skincare Sessions

Turn the shower into an at-home spa day with mini facials, skincare treatments, manicures, or a beauty workshop.

Going the DIY route? Create a few simple stations with face masks, headbands, hand treatments, and manicure supplies. Fresh towels, mirrors, and plenty of table space will do more for the setup than a mountain of products.

Want it more polished? Hire a beauty or skincare professional to lead a group facial or demonstrate a simple routine. Check beforehand whether guests need to arrive without makeup and whether the products are suitable for different skin types.

Keep food and drinks easy too. Brunch, fruit, infused water, and a few sweet treats work well because people can help themselves between treatments.

And don’t schedule facials right after everyone has shown up camera-ready for the shower photos. Take the pictures first.

2. Paint the Spouse-to-Be

A local artist walks guests through painting a portrait of the bride’s future spouse.

Everyone works from the same photo, starting with basic shapes and building up to colors and details. Artistic talent is optional. Twenty wildly different versions of the same face is half the fun.

For a more general painting activity, see our Paint and Sip Bridal Shower ideas.

3. Mixology Class

Hire a bartender or mixologist to teach guests how to make one or two cocktails or mocktails.

They can cover the basics of muddling, shaking, and garnishing before everyone makes their own drink. Making two drinks properly is more fun than sitting through a lecture on twelve different syrups.

MODERN MOH TIP: Let the bride choose her favorite creation at the end. If she really loves it, the couple could even use it as inspiration for a signature wedding cocktail.

4. Yoga Session / Meditation and Mindfulness

For a more relaxed shower, bring in a qualified instructor for a yoga class, guided meditation, or mindfulness session.

Let the instructor know ahead of time that fitness levels will vary, and put “wear something comfy” on the invitation. Nobody wants to find out in skinny jeans that the afternoon involves advanced yoga.

Pair the session with smoothies, juices, or a relaxed brunch for an easy wellness-style shower.

5. Tarot, Astrology or Another Spiritual Session

A tarot reader, astrologer, or other spiritual practitioner can offer short individual readings or lead a group session.

Only book this if the bride and her friends are actually into it. Keep participation optional so no one feels put on the spot.

With a bigger group, quick readings running alongside the rest of the shower are much easier to manage than full sessions for everyone.

The Bottom Line

The best bridal shower activities give people something to do without making the whole party feel scheduled down to the minute.

For a relaxed shower, set up something like a Date Night Jar, Bouquet Bar, or Selfie Station and let guests join in when they want. If the bride would rather make the activity the main event, a mixology class, spa session, or pottery painting gives the day more structure without relying on traditional games.

You don’t need several activities either. One good setup that people genuinely use is better than five abandoned stations the maid of honor has to pack back into the car afterward.
