Planning a Newport Bachelorette Party
The best times to visit Newport, RI, are between March and May or September and November when mild temperatures and minimal rain make it perfect for exploring the city’s famous mansions. Budgeting around $159 per day is recommended, though bachelorette activities might add to this cost.
Newport is conveniently located between Boston and New York, with travel times of three hours from NYC, 30 minutes from Providence, and 90 minutes from Boston. Once there, downtown Newport is best explored on foot, ensuring easy access to its many attractions.
“Newport, RI is the perfect location for hosting a bachelorette party because of the many offerings within a compact area. Whether your interests lie in water activities, culinary experiences, shopping, or visits to vineyards and breweries, Newport provides a range of options to cater to every preference, making it an outstanding choice for a memorable celebration. Depending on where you stay, many top destinations are conveniently accessible by bike, foot, or a short Uber ride, which is ideal for those late nights when you need a slice of pizza, a bottle of water, and a fast route to bed,” says Blake.
Consider a nautical adventure, vineyard tours, or a luxurious spa weekend for themes. Keep up to date, too, on bachelorette party trends for the most amazing experience.
Where Bachelorettes Stay in Newport, RI
Deciding where to stay, especially for a large group depending on who you decide to invite to your pre-wedding getaway, is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make. But don’t worry, there are so many choices. However, Blake says “Accommodations in this area tend to be on the pricier side. The Brenton Hotel is an excellent choice for those seeking accommodations for their bride tribe.
“Recent regulations have limited short-term rental options, resulting in a somewhat constrained housing market. So, the best areas for lodging include downtown locations along the waterfront, spanning through Thames, Broadway, and Spring Street leading up to the Cliff Walk and those surrounding neighborhoods.
“Central locations around Lower Thames are recommended for those nightlife options. With fewer restrictions on short-term rentals and just a short distance away, Middletown offers alternative options for both housing and hotels, particularly near the beaches, just a short three to five-minute drive via ride-sharing services like Uber.”
Satisfy Your Food Cravings in Newport
While you are in town visiting this gorgeous destination location, you need to stay nourished! After all, how are you going to climb all the stairs in all those mansions if you aren’t properly fueled? And noshing in Newport will not disappoint.
Regional seafood delicacies in Rhode Island include stuffies, which are stuffed quahog clams, Rhode Island clam chowder featuring a distinctive clear broth dissimilar to the creamy New England or tomato-based Manhattan versions, and Rhode Island-style calamari, consisting of fried and breaded squid rings served with spicy hot peppers.
For breakfast or brunch, Blake recommends starting your day at Corner Cafe, which is BYOB, or enjoying a meal at The Dining Room at the Vanderbilt. Other excellent choices include CRU Cafe and Belles Cafe at Newport Shipyard.
For lunch, you can’t go wrong with Mother Pizzeria or Newport Harbor Island Resort, where the view is simply stunning.
Castle Hill Inn also offers fantastic views, while O’Brien’s Pub provides a laid-back atmosphere. For something different, try Diegos or The Black Pearl.
When it comes to dinner, Blake’s top pick is Giusto, her favorite restaurant in Newport. Other great dinner options include TSK, Bar ‘Cino, Pasta Beach, and Perro Salado. Last but not least, if you are into oysters, Midtown Oyster Bar is just what you’ve been craving.
Where Can Your Bride Squad Drink?
When it comes to where to drink, whether it be beer, a cocktail, a glass of wine, or even a mocktail, in Newport, you’re spoiled for choice. Start your evening at Giusto, known for its stylish ambiance and creative cocktails. The Vanderbilt offers a sophisticated setting, perfect for sipping a crafted drink.
Head to Stoneacre Garden or Bar ‘Cino for a lively atmosphere, both popular spots among locals and visitors. The Smoke House is great for those who enjoy a laid-back vibe with great drinks, while Mother Pizzeria serves up excellent beverages alongside their delicious pies.
Clarke Cookehouse is a must-visit for your Newport bachelorette squad for its historic charm and late-night revelry, and The Gardiner House offers a cozy spot to unwind. Don’t miss the White Horse Tavern, the oldest operating saloon in the United States, where your party can enjoy a drink steeped in history.
Newport Nightlife and Dancing
What Friday and Saturday night on a bachelorette party would be complete without some dancing and nightlife? Blake suggests hot spots such as The Newport Blues Cafe, Dockside, and The BoomBoom Room.
If you and the girls are looking for something a bit more unique for your party, why not take in a drag show and dinner? Illusions the Show is believed to be the best drag show in Newport. Give it a try and see for yourself. It’s an experience worth trying at least once, and you’ll be sure to get some great photos for Instagram.
Need more suggestions? Take in a Bit Players comedy show at Firehouse Theater or the Newport Playhouse. Or, book tickets to a show at the Newport Hollywood Bowl.
What Else Bachelorettes Do in Newport
You’ve probably guessed it—you’ll have no problem finding things to do in Newport during the day. And it all starts with the gorgeous mansions. Sign up for a Newport Mansions Tour to take it all in.
Check out the sites and enjoy the ocean views and views of homes along Narragansett Bay. Don’t miss out on a visit to Marble House, an opulent Gilded Age stone palace. If you follow the Kennedys, you’ll be happy to catch a glimpse of their summer White House.
Blake also suggests, “Grab a coffee and pastry and go for a morning walk along The Cliffwalk. Enjoy a snack and drink on the rooftop of The Vanderbilt or Hotel Viking. They offer a roof deck experience like no other.”
Other ideas she likes: “Drive along Ocean Drive to see the mansions, stopping at Brenton Point to grab some Del’s Lemonade and see the kites before grabbing a drink and enjoying the view on the lawn at Castle Hill.”
If your group loves horses, then you can coordinate a Newport Polo day at the Polo grounds. You might even get lucky enough to see a Polo match underway.
Take advantage of the water and “charter a boat for your group of friends to enjoy the day swimming and enjoying coolers full of your favorite canned cocktails and seeing Newport from the water. If chartering is out of the budget, take a sunset water cruise on one of the sailboats from downtown.”
Need more options? Hire a shuttle service to take you to Farm Coast for a grand tour. A party bus is a great way to explore the area, especially if you have a larger group and a large bachelorette party.
And if the budget allows, don’t miss out on Newport Jaguar Tours—combine this with some gourmet champagne picnics and you’ll have a day that can’t be beat.
A Day Trip to the Vineyards
One favorite activity for any bridal party is a day trip to some local vineyards. One of the best options is renting a car service to take you the just over two hours to Portsmith, NH, for a visit to Greenvale Vineyards.
There are also private tours to explore with your best friends that can help you get in some much-anticipated wine tastings and charcuterie boards at places like Newport Vineyards or Carolyn’s Sakonnet Vineyards in nearby Little Compton, RI.
If finding a great brewery sounds more fun than hitting up the local wineries, head on over to Newport Craft Brewing Co. or Taproot Brewing Co. Grab a local craft beer and settle in for a picnic with some delicious snacks you pick up along the way.
Relax with a Massage at One of Newport’s Spas
Feel like relaxing? Your bachelorette party can enjoy a well-deserved spa day at one of the amazing local spas. Blake recommends Bohdi Spa, Newport Skin Therapy (NST), or Island Wellness Center. If yoga is in the cards, schedule some private classes for you and the bridal party with Mend.
Getting Your Squad Around Newport
Getting your party around Newport is easy. While you may wish to reserve some rental cars, this might not be necessary. Blake says, “Ubers and Lyfts are easy to come by, rent a scooter, bring or rent a bike, take a pedicab from point A to B, or buy a water taxi ticket.”
The Newport Harbor Shuttle currently offers a hop-on-hop-off option for only $15 a day. And if the pedicab sounds like fun, you can reserve these fun bikes at Newport Pedicab. Just make sure all your passengers are in sync for this fun activity. It’s totally a must-do for you, your maid of honor, and the crew. On weekends, enjoy live music and dancing while you indulge in East Coast wines.
Extra Tips and Suggestions
Last but not least, let’s share some extra tips and suggestions from Blake for a Newport bachelorette party. As far as what to add to your packing list, she recommends, “Packing all depends on the time of year you’re coming! Summer months are when Newport is popping the most—sundresses, flats for walking, a bathing suit and cover up, sunglasses, sunhat / baseball cap, and shorts. Skip the heels—there are cobblestone roads all throughout and I have seen too many victims of those stones in heels.”
We also suggest that you pack a sweater or sweatshirt for the cool night. Or, “buy a cute new Newport sweatshirt while here. There are plenty of those shops around,” says Blake.
She also shares that, “Newport is a relaxed coastal community but our busiest months are summer months. Be prepared to make reservations at restaurants you go to, pay cover fees at some nightlife bars (bring cash) and outsource help when you feel like you may need it. When you have only 72 hours in a place like Newport, the last thing you should be thinking about or worried about is decor or grocery shopping.”
“Upon arrival, let yourself get lost in the experience without distractions. Consider delegating responsibilities such as decor arrangements, itinerary planning, reservation bookings, and stocking your pantry to professionals like ourselves, allowing you to fully savor the offerings of Newport.”
